Guilty of overeating during the holidays? Many of us have spent the past month overeating (and overdrinking?), and are now having a hard time getting into our favorite pants. Here are ten simple and fun ways to lose some of that holiday weight gain here in La Paz.

  1. The first one is a no-brainer. Walk the malecón. Enjoy an evening stroll on the malecón of La Paz with a beautiful sunset, or get up early and take a fresh, brisk walk.
  2. Go Supping. No, not by sips or spoonfuls, but by stand-up paddle boarding (SUP). The La Paz bay is perfect for SUP. Contact Harker Board at 612 122 7661, or find them on Facebook.
  3. If you don’t have a friend with a pool, befriend someone who does have a pool and regularly go swimming. Or try La Paz’s beautiful Olympic-size pool at Gimnasio de Usos Múltiples (GUM) up on 5 de Febrero. You can call GUM for swimming times and classes at 122 4349.
  4. Ride a bicycle along the malecón’s bike path.
  5. Play a round of golf. La Paz really does have it all. You can do a nine-hole round for just $35 USD at The Golf Club at El Mogote. Call Marco at 612 105 3863 for more information.
  6. Adopt a dog and take him or her for as many walks as are required. Check out K9 Rancho del Perro at k9ranchodelperro.org or Baja Dogs La Paz Inc. at bajadogslapaz.org.
  7. Go swimming with the whale sharks right here in the bay of La Paz. Several tour companies along the malecón would be happy to take you at a moments notice.
  8. Call and book a horseback ride out at Rancho El Cajon. Ride your horse along the beach. Priceless. To book your adventure, please call Larry Harmon at 612 128 9120.
  9. Go dancing. Not only is it an upright persuasion for a horizontal occasion, it’s fun! Contact La Morante Art Bar, Big Ruby’s Restaurant, or Tailhunter’s Restauant for their live music nights. You can find each of them on Facebook.
  10. Visit the La Paz Farmer’s Market on Tuesdays and Saturdays on the corner of Madero and Constitución, downtown La Paz. Buy local and healthy! Remember, early birds arrive before 9:00 am.
