Spanish guitar raffled for musician Abel Lorenzo López of the musical duo Arena de Río

A raffle on December 2nd, 2011 for a concert guitar will raise funds for La Paz musician Abel Lorenzo López of the musical duo Arena de Río. The Antonio Lorca Spanish concert guitar, which comes with a Dean Markley pickup and hard case, is valued at $18,000 pesos.

Lorenzo López and Consuelo Martinez are well-known, much-loved local musicians whose group, Arena de Río, plays music that is rooted in the country’s history — very Mexican, very beautiful. To hear a sample of their music, go to

Lorenzo has been undergoing treatment for a serious form of cancer. His family, who know that he is a fighter, is confident he will make a recovery. But, meanwhile, it has been impossible for Arena de Río to work.

The raffle is at 9 p.m. Dec. 2 in Galería Tonantzin on Constitución between Revolución and Aquiles Serdán (a few doors down from the post office). Tickets are 200 pesos.
