News from FANLAP’s Library/Learning Center

By Judy Peterson

Marta Lledo, a world renown pianist from Argentina, has made La Paz her home for at least six months of the year. The rest of the year she is in San Francisco with visits to Argentina and other parts of the world for concerts.

On the afternoon of January 18th the children of FANLAP were delighted to meet Marta Lledo and listen to her perform in our library/learning center.   About 20 children age 4 to 10 years were captivated by the sounds emanating from her magic fingers. When she asked them what they would like her to play I was amazed when one boy asked her to play Beethoven….another asked her to play Flamenco and later asked for some Waltzes.   Just a few years ago the children of the colonias hadn’t even heard of music other than Norteña or the popular music they hear on the radio.

Thank you to Paola of Biblioteca Infantil Abrapalabra for bringing her group to listen to the beautiful music of Marta Lledo.

SAVE THE DATE: May 11 Marta Lledo will give a concert to benefit the Children of La Paz at the Teatro de la Ciudad. The audience is sure to find her music amazing. More information and how you may get tickets to be announced.

Meanwhile visit her web page at www.martalledo.com and you’ll see why she is called “The Latin Liberace.”

Thank you so much from the Children of La Paz.
