La Paz Officials Visit Mexico City to Launch New, National Image Campaign

In the presence of the Federal Secretary of Tourism Gloria Guevara Manzo, La Paz officials, including Mayor Esthela Ponce Beltran and Agustin Olachea, President of EMPRHOTUR, the La Paz Hotel and Tourism Association, joined the Secretary of Tourism for Baja California Sur Rubén Reachi in Mexico City to officially launch the awareness campaign “La Paz: City of Peace and Abundance on the Sea of Cortez,” highlighting La Paz’s safety and the $1 billion in environmentally sensitive developments that will take place over the next five years in the city and the surrounding area.

Olachea presented the plan of emerging, environmentally sensitive resorts and master planned developments at the event that will serve travelers and second-home owners who prize both natural places and a healthy community life. Developments include CostaBaja Resort, Playa La Paz, Azul Cortez, Maravia and Bahia de los Sueños.

He also presented the intensive national and international media campaign that will take place over the next 3 years to attract tourism to the city sponsored by EMPRHOTUR, the local developers association and the State government.

For her part, Mayor Esthela Ponce Beltrán reaffirmed her commitment the municipality has established with those dependent on tourism to promote La Paz both national and internationally and to continue to provide the security that tourists are looking for in a city. She also stated that Baja California Sur had recently been named one of the Top 10 places to visit by CNN, Univision, and Telemundo among others.

Secretary Guevara Manzo welcomed the La Paz contingent to the capital of Mexico and mentioned that La Paz can count on Federal support to place La Paz as one of the most visited beach destinations both nationally and internationally.  She also noted that during the year of tourism, announced by President Felipe Calderon, she, along with different levels of government and the private initiative, have established a specialized tourism promotion strategy focused on the country as well as distinctive segments of the country so that together, everyone can enjoy the commitments made for promoting the year of tourism in Mexico.

For the launch of the new La Paz awareness campaign in Mexico City, a large number of travel agents, tourism promoters and national tourism press were on hand covering the event and enjoyed just a sample of what La Paz has to offer including images of the Bay of La Paz, marine life and Isla Espiritu Santo. But most importantly, attendees of the event were informed that the tranquility and peacefulness that makes La Paz an ideal destination for families and retired travelers could not be put into words.
