Ella Stichler, Ava Burger and Cami Stichler, who attend Camino Creek Elementary School in San Diego, decided they would like to help some children who live in impoverished neighborhoods on the outskirts of La Paz, Baja California Sur.  They discovered that although education in Mexico is free through to 6th grade, many families can’t afford to purchase required uniforms, gym clothes, school shoes and tennis shoes, back packs and school supplies for all grades of school, nor are they able to pay for public transportation to and from the junior and senior high schools for those children who wish to continue on with their education.  The families are also required to pay what we know as tuition in senior high school, which is not possible for those who live in the neighborhoods served by Fundacion Ayuda Niños La Paz, A.C. (FANLAP).
During the 2011-2012 school year, the girls sponsored one little girl from La Paz and pledged to support her education until she graduates.
Every year Camino Creek Elementary School holds a talent show and bake sale with the proceeds from the bake sale going to a selected non-profit for that year.  The three girls approached the PTA, and through their efforts, FANLAP was approved as the recipient of the $727.00 that was raised.  These funds are being used to purchase uniforms and school shoes for 15 students for the 2012-2013 school year.
Ella, Ava and Cami are hoping that their idea will catch on and other kids in the United States will get together to hold a fundraiser to benefit children in La Paz and help them achieve their dreams and make a better life for themselves and their families.
We of FANLAP are very grateful to Ella, Ava and Cami for their efforts.  The three are also supporters of Baja Dogs, and are fairy dog mothers to Noel, a dog rescued on Christmas Day 2011.
Together we are making a difference.
