Governor Marcos Covarrubias Villaseñor was on hand to lay down the first stone in the construction of La Paz’s Convention Center. Salvador Pérez Ramírez, Secretary of Urban Planning, Infrastructure and Ecology for the State, said the project will help position La Paz as a tourist destination in which all said and done, over 300 million pesos will be invested and La Paz will have a place to hold events for up to 2000 people.  Both the federal and state governments have earmarked funds towards the project.
Perez Ramirez highlighted the importance the new convention center will bring to the city, which is in dire need of alternative options to reactivating tourism in the capital of BCS.  He says the center will be the ideal place for large celebrations, meetings and conventions and that the first phase of the project will cost 90 million pesos and should conclude in the spring of 2013.  The second phase will start immediately after with an investment of 290 million pesos.
Agustin Olachea, president of Emprhotur, (the Hotel Association) congratulated the Governor for generating the funds to start the first phase of construction and for having the vision for establishing an alternative option for tourism in the city.
Olachea also mentioned that it is unfortunate that La Paz is still not a tourist destination and insisted that the 3 levels of government and the private sector must work together to help build La Paz into a true tourist destination with one vision.  He hopes that with the start of construction on the convention center, La Paz can move forward and together to capitalize on the thousands of students graduating each year with professional degrees and generate dignified employment for each and everyone of them for a better quality of life.
Installations of the La Paz Convention Center will be of premier quality that will allow the city to be taken in account for the celebration of important events that will highlight the beauty of the area and above all, generate new sources of employment for sudcalifornianos.

The La Paz Convention Center will be located on the road to Pichilingue, above the curve that is named “Curva de la Enfermería.”
