The party has started! The malecon of La Paz, with the renovation project of the malecon at a standstill, has transformed itself into one big, public street party.

The traditional Carnaval La Paz  kicked off on Thursday, February 8th.

Organizers are promising a well-organized, safe event so prepare yourself for an unusually busy, bright and festive malecon with plenty to buy, eat and drink as well as large crowds and never ending entertainment.  Bandstands are set up along the malecón, but the main stage is in the open area near the kiosk at the foot of 16 de Septiembre. The show starts at 5 p.m. and there are featured entertainers every night at about 10 p.m. . The performances are free, so be prepared for crowds.

Our favourite part of the Carnaval though are the parades. The traditional Carnaval parades will run on Sunday, February 11th, Monday the 12th and Tuesday the 13th. The parade normally starts at 5:00 in the afternoon but stay tuned as the start time may change.  The parade route runs along the malecon from Calle Colegio Militar until Marquez de Leon. You’ll see the same floats and participants each day, but the parade switches direction. It begins at Colegio Militar February 11th (opening night) and the 13th and it begins at Márquez de León on Sunday, the 12th.
