In order to give continuity to the efforts and needs of local business people and producers, the municipality of La Paz, led by Fausto Alvarez Gámez, will inaugurate on Sunday, March 1st the first ever Entrepreneurs, Producers and Artisan Market, to be located in the parking lot of City Hall. This new market will give local producers and artisans the opportunity to offer their products at low prices in order to also benefit consumers, said the general director of Economic Development, Armando Covarrubias Flores.

Covarrubias Flores commented that apart from generating a form of income for local producers, the market is also promoting formal trade. The City, through Hacienda, (Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público de México) is teaching a course to the more than 85 participants of the newly formed market in which the importance and benefits that are acquired by having an established and regulated business under all instances of the law will be explained.

The Director of Economic Development explained that the products offered at the market will cost up to 40% less than in supermarkets, which will include seafood, agricultural products and artisan crafts, all of excellent quality. The reason that products can be offered at such a low cost is because merchants from around the city will make direct sales to the public without any intermediary. Therefore, this will not adversely affect any economy, he said.

The market was to open February 22nd but the Director announced a change in date of the inauguration, giving participants an opportunity to be trained in the handling of food by the State Commission for Protection against Health Risks (COEPRIS) and in order to have all producers comply with all requirements to having an established and regulated business.

Covarrubias Flores also said that the market will have the participation of Protection Civil, who are training ten volunteers in first aid to be present at the market.

Covarrubias Flores would like to cordially invite the entire population of La Paz to attend the first ever Entrepreneurs, Producers and Artisan Market on Sunday, March 1st starting at 9:00 am, at the parking lot of City Hall.

More than 85 different local producers and entrepreneurs will be on hand offering their products at low prices. The City plans to host the Entrepreneurs, Producers and Artisans Market every Sunday.
