The Loreto community will come together Sunday, April 6, 2014, for a family-fun event that is the first of its kind here—the Baja Bark Fun Walk and Run, featuring running and walking categories with distances of 1K, 2K, and 5K, with or without your dog. This active outdoor event is appropriate for all ages and abilities. Basic entry is free, and to participate in the walk/run, the fee is 300 pesos in advance, 400 pesos after March 1 and at the event, which includes a gift bag, T-shirt, and course and site map.

Hosted by the Loreto Bay Volunteers, the Baja Bark’s “gold sponsor” is Agua Viva Management, with “silver” sponsorship by the Wine Cellar @ Nopolo and Bahia Management. Numerous additional local sponsors and supporters promise to make the Baja Bark a memorable day that offers something for everyone, with dozens of booths for food, beverages, and merchandise open from 11 AM to 4 PM at the Loreto Bay Golf Course in Nopolo, 6 kilometers south of Loreto’s downtown. If you haven’t had enough exercise with a walk/run on a scenic, easy to moderate- level track between the mountains and the sea, you can dance your paws off to Los Beach Dogs starting at 2 PM (same venue).

Breakfast and registration for race participants begins at 10 AM at the Loreto Baja Golf Course of the Loreto Bay Golf Resort & Spa at Baja. The Walk & Run commence at 11 AM, with awards presented at 1 PM. Prizes include dinner certificates at fine Loreto restaurants as well as world-class framed photography by local artist Richard Jackson (values up to US$250). Proceeds from the event will be used to benefit local projects supported by the Loreto Bay Volunteers Organization. To register in advance, forms are available and can be left with registration fee at the Wine Cellar@Nopolo, El Gavilán Spice Shop, or Agua Viva Management. You can register online at
