Casa Parra presents the exhibition Isla California by Elti Alejandro Lopez. The opening is at 8 p.m. on Friday, June 30th at Casa Parra, Independencia 413 (across the street from the side entrance to the cathedral). Admission is free.

There will also be a screening of the the artist’s first short film, Desierto Indígena (watch trailer). This experimental documentary focuses on two indigenous groups: Yaqui (originally from Sonora), who live in the northern part of the state, and Mixtec (originally from Oaxaca), who live in the south. By means of interviews, animations and etymological definitions, the documentary realizes a deconstruction of identity, video and the Spanish language, itself. The gallery and store, Casa Parra, features high-quality work by Mexican artists and craftspeople. Its Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/casaparragaleria/.
