The Secretary of Tourism of BCS announced that just over 875 thousand tourists visited the State in the first four months of 2017.

Baja California Sur is increasingly becoming one of the most important tourist destinations in Mexico, the Secretary of Tourism for BCS Genaro Ruíz Hernández, said. During the month of April 2017, the number of air travelers increased by 27.4 percent in the municipality of Los Cabos, while La Paz recorded an increase of 20.1 percent, over the same period last year.

Ruíz Hernández noted that according to data from the Pacific Airport Group in Los Cabos (GAP), the arrival of domestic travelers rose by 46.7 percent and 21.5 percent for international visitors, which translates into a little more than 230,400 tourists who enjoyed the natural beauties and tourist attractions in the area.

He also commented that according to GAP, the La Paz International Airport saw an increase of 20.1 percent in air arrivals compared to April of 2016.

Likewise, Ruíz Hernández said that in relation to the first four months of 2017, just over 875 thousand air passengers from different parts of the world arrived to BCS, which represents an increase of 20.3 percent compared to the previous year.

“Baja California Sur is firmly positioned as one of the best places to vacation, both nationally and internationally, so we will continue working to promote the sustained and steady growth of our tourism sector. This will allow the state to generate more progress and social development for our f families,” he said.

Ruiz Hernandez stressed that these positive figures that are being reported by GAP show that strategies for promotion and marketing of main destinations in BCS have been carried out effectively. Marketing and Promotion of the state has been a joint effort between the Secretary of Tourism, the Mexican Tourism and Promotion council (CPTM), the State Tourism Trusts, municipalities, agencies and chambers as well as businesses in the private sector.
